Welcome to my new Lockdown style-focused interview series which highlights some of my wonderful friends in the ethical and sustainable fashion space! Every style-conscious woman knows how important it is to draw inspiration from others – as a stylist, I am no exception. In this interview, I chat with vegan lifestyle blogger Marta Canga about her style story, what’s in her wardrobe and discover some fun facts about her. I hope you enjoy!
Marta, for those who don’t know you, can you give us a quick intro to who you are, and what you do?
I am a Vegan Lifestyle Blogger based in London, with a passion for sustainable fashion, vegan food, natural beauty and living an ethical lifestyle.
Let’s jump right in! What does fashion mean to you?
It means to have fun, but also getting flattering clothing that will make you feel beautiful and confident.
What’s your style story? How would you describe your style evolution?
I’ve gone from monochromatic outfits to punk-ish, to what I now would say minimalistic with neutral tones. It’s been an absolute journey but I’m happy with everything I have learned so far!
What’s your favourite outfit and why?
I could dress every day in high waisted blue jeans, a white (organic cotton) t-shirt or shirt and a motorcycle jacket. EVERY. SINGLE. DAY. It’s such a staple for me!
How many items do you think you own in your wardrobe?
I did a recent wardrobe declutter, but probably around 50 or so?
What’s your most worn item?
Tough question, but probably either one of my jeans or my Poétique Paris Vegan Leather Jacket I would say.
Have you had any fashion faux pas moments that you’d like to forget?
Many. But I’m not going to disclose them haha
Are there any fashion trends that you love or hate?
Fast fashion and wearing stuff that doesn’t suit you! It’s so important to know the cuts, shapes, colours and textures that go with your body and skin tone to make sure you are wearing the good stuff.
What was the last item you introduced to your wardrobe?
Some jeans from Topshop’s Considered Collection. Sadly no other jeans fit me from any brand and I’d rather wear something that fits than something eco-friendly but doesn’t fit and ends up in the back of my cupboard!
Have you ever participated in a clothing swap? And if yes what’s the best item of clothing you’ve found?
Yes I have! And I will be organising one soon as soon as this madness is over. Probably a red jumper from & Other Stories that I wear non-stop. Such a gorgeous colour and simple shape, it goes with so much!
Do you shop for vintage pieces? And if yes, what’s the best item of clothing you’ve found?
Sometimes, but not always. I struggle with Vintage as I am rather petite and I tend to only find things that are a bit big for me, which means I then need to fix etc etc. Vintage-wise, a dress from Laura Ashley from the 60s or 70s found at Traid 🙂
Who are your top 3 ethical or sustainable fashion brands?
My go-to’s are: –
Jan n June
Armed Angels
Cossac
To put it simply, they all have amazing quality pieces that are great for everyday wear. Not too expensive and tons of vegan options!
Now, for some fun – please share with us 1 interesting fact that people may not know about you
I speak Japanese 🙂
And, if someone was to play you in a movie who would it be and why?
I have been told I look like Jodie Comer so if she was to play me I would be very happy! haha She is so gorgeous and so smart, I would be so honoured.
