In Honour Of Earth Day – Can We Do More?

So yesterday was the official #earthday but I feel like everyday should be Earth day…Did you know that we consume over 1.5 times of our planet’s natural resources? They are not finite. The clothing industry is the 2nd largest polluter in the world, second to oil. So when you think about it like that, we could all do so much more to help. To become an active citizen of the world we simply need to start thinking closer to home, we can start with our own wardrobe and then slowly transition into thinking about how we shop and who we buy from in future.
I use the word future as I think about what our beautiful planet would look like twenty years from now with extra pollution, depleted natural resources, more natural disasters and unpredictable weather. Pretty awful right? I can’t imagine children in a first-world country growing up in those conditions let alone those in developing countries. Well, there’s no need to imagine because if we don’t take action and change things that’s exactly how life will look.
Depressing huh? But it doesn’t have to be that way. We can change the course… maybe not entirely but slightly. It all starts with just one step, then the next and so on and so forth. It’s not about diving in and tackling everything at once.
I just wanted to ask everyone to think about one small thing that they can do differently – and gather some ideas for a future blog or FB live post… What else can we do that is simple, easy and doesn’t overwhelm people that are busy?
I’m buying less, wasting less, buying from more credible sources and seeking out brands that are minimising their impact on the planet. But what else could ‘we’ be doing?
Let me know in the comments of any cool brand that’s doing something great to help save our beautiful planet (I’d like to get as many of them in my A-Z directory as possible). Or perhaps you’ve made a recent commitment to do more? Let me know 🙂 Or maybe you have an idea on how to be more sustainable every day in your home, place of work or your own business? Whatever your thoughts please share with me. I’d love to hear it!
Have a great day everyone.
