High-Profile Talent Styling — Private Commission

The Brief

There was not one. Not in the conventional sense.

A request came through an executive assistant for a high-profile talent attending two significant public events — both with strong environmental and ethical dimensions. The talent is well known for her public commitment to sustainable and independent brands, and has used her platform to champion lesser-known names. What she wore needed to reflect that, completely and credibly.

I was brought in as the sustainable stylist. My role as founder of Ethical Brand Directory and my reputation in London for knowing the sustainable fashion landscape — genuinely, not superficially — was the reason I was trusted with this.

The Challenge

Working through an executive assistant rather than directly with talent changes how decisions get made. Timelines move, responses are delayed and sometimes you need to make informed decisions quickly using experience rather than perfect information. The executive assistant was the only point of contact. Response times were unpredictable. The brief evolved. Decisions often needed to be made quickly and with limited access, using the talent’s established values, public positioning and the requirements of each event to guide sourcing choices.

The sourcing was extensive — sustainable and ethical brands, vintage pieces tracked across multiple countries and flown in, high-end vintage stores, designer stockists, brand studios contacted directly. Late evenings in stores. Calls and messages to find out whether a specific piece existed in the right size and colourway. Every option presented needed to align with the talent’s publicly stated values as well as the event context, with sustainability credentials verified alongside aesthetic fit.

A large part of this work happens behind the scenes. Backup options, contingency planning, logistics and problem solving are what allow talent teams to stay focused on the event rather than wardrobe complications.

The Work

I researched, sourced and curated a full selection of options from sustainable and ethical brands — each with a strong, credible story that the talent would be proud to associate with publicly. Every brand was verified. Every piece was considered in the context of the event, the cause, and the individual.

Alongside the fashion sourcing, I managed all brand communications, logistics, NDA compliance, and the administrative complexity that comes with working at this level. The talent’s team had one person to deal with. Everything else was invisible to them.

What This Requires

Discretion is essential in this kind of work. NDAs, confidentiality and professional boundaries are part of the process, not an afterthought. The talent’s name has never been used to solicit business. NDAs were signed and honoured in full. The trust placed in me to handle this quietly and with complete professionalism was as much a part of the brief as anything else.

Working with high-profile talent requires adaptability, discretion and the ability to make progress despite limited access, shifting timelines and multiple stakeholders.

A Note on This Project

The talent ultimately chose to wear another designer to the event. That is standard for this level of work. I delivered a curated set of options with verified sustainability credentials and supporting context behind each recommendation. My role was to provide considered, fully sourced options with clear rationale behind each recommendation. Final decisions always remain with the client.
