Roberta Lee on redefining luxury
Updated 2026
The conversation is no longer simply about consuming less. It's about consuming with greater discernment. For years, luxury was defined by price, exclusivity and status. Today, I think the definition is becoming far more personal. Luxury is owning fewer things that genuinely add value to your life. It's having the confidence to walk away from something that doesn't align with your identity, regardless of the label or the discount. Our perception of luxury is shaped by our upbringing, our experiences, our aspirations and what is accessible to us.
There isn't one universal definition, and that's exactly the point. Sustainable luxury isn't about buying the most expensive item. It's about making intentional choices that reflect your values, your lifestyle and the future you're building. Style isn't about clothes. It's about discernment. The ability to recognise what truly belongs in your wardrobe - and, just as importantly, what doesn't.
