the Main Style Archetypes
When it comes to style archetypes, there are several core categories that people often fall into. These archetypes help us understand our fashion preferences, personality traits, and how we want to present ourselves to the world. The suggested personality traits often align with each style archetype.
While not everyone will fit every trait, these can serve as a helpful starting point for understanding each persona’s general vibe.
Below are five examples of the popular style archetypes!

- Unpredictable: Prizes spontaneity; can keep others guessing what’s next.
4. Romantic

Style: Feminine, dreamy, and whimsical
Key Pieces: Soft colours, lace, ruffles, and delicate details
Personality Traits:

5. Natural (or Casual)

Style: Relaxed, comfortable, and fuss-free
Key Pieces: Easy fits (e.g., jeans and tees), neutral or earthy shades, minimal styling, practical footwear
Personality Traits:
- Easygoing: Prefers simplicity, both in daily routines and social interactions.
- Practical: Values function and comfort as much as—if not more than—style.
- Approachable: Projects a friendly, down-to-earth vibe, making others feel comfortable.
- Authentic: Unconcerned with impressing through flash; prioritises genuine self-expression.

Can I Be More Than One Style Archetype?

Absolutely! Many people embody elements of multiple archetypes. Mixing and matching different style elements can create a distinctive and personalised look that reflects your multifaceted personality. Fashion is about self-expression, so you can explore different personas without feeling restricted to just one.
I am a typical classic archetype – I love a blazer and a white shirt. But I do have two accent types: dramatic/edgy and creative. This is reflected in some of my less conventional accessory choices, statement bags, and vintage finds. The slightly rebellious part of me (that stays dormant most of the time now that I am in my 40s) still loves a pair of chunky boots and a leather biker jacket; that part of my wardrobe feels like a huge contrast to my daily polished look.
When I go on holiday, my inner Boho chic wakes up! But this is not a style I dress for day to day; however, you could say my love for maxi-skirts is aligned with a more free-spirited approach rather than a pencil skirt, which feels too restrictive for me.

Hi, Roberta! This was so fascinating! I’m a combination of B & C – Bohemian and Creative – yet I feel very comfortable in classic style and a clean, sophisticated look. Simple elegance, not an over-produced look, has always attracted me. I realize now, I’ve always combined looks – classic, with bright colors, and casual, with a Bohemian flair – as my mother was a creative, fashion-forward woman who taught me the way to combine high and low. (I just didn’t realize how much she influenced me!) Understanding my eclectic style of dress honors my mother Sandy Raia, who graduated from Washington Irving, a fashion design high school in NYC’s Greenwich Village on Irving Place and 16th Street, in 1948, Thank you!
Hi Michelle,
I loved reading this outcome for you and the connection you’ve made to some Inner Archetypes and other style personalities coming through. Being aware the influences that connected to your history and identity is powerful. Fascinating to read your response. Thank you so much for sharing.

I’m mix of classic, dramatic and casual!!!!!! 🔥
This style quiz and the other blogs were really helpful 😃 I still don’t know if I’m certain about my overall style – but your website is amazing. It is full of so much guidance, I’m sure I will get there eventually!!!!!!!
I am a romantic in body and soul, but my archetype is natural/casual with dramatic/playful elements. A leather jacket is my dream! I love white and black and bold sneakers or a cardigan, pink is my color 🩷😍
Thank you for sharing – everyone is so unique! I love to hear how varying elements of style personality, our personal preferences and hidden archetypes manifest in individuals style. I hope you enjoyed the style archetype quiz ✨
I’m definitely a mix of classic and romantic. I love suiting, but in soft feminine colors and love a good tailored pant or pencil skirt with a lace or ruffled blouse in white or soft pink. Even my casual style is rather ‘Princess Kate’ but with a lot of the same tops. I’d love to elevate my style even further with more “old money”/”Scandinavian” (read tone on tone) outfits.
Hi Eliza,
That’s a great combination. I love creating styles for my clients that are classic and romantic; it’s so much fun. I think it’s all the ruffles, lace, texture and bows against tailoring – I love that juxtaposition.
Have you started planning your more tone-on-tone looks? This can look seriously sophisticated, and it’s a lot easier to do than people think.
It’s all about texture and making sure you invest in a mix of simple items (no big logos) that have a distinct textural difference. So, when they are layered together, there’s enough interest to make it look intentional – not boring.
Love this! I’m a pretty even combination of classic and dramatic. I love bright, bold colors (red is my FAVORITE!), but I also tend to lean towards more blacks, creams, and whites. I love a tailored outfit with maybe an interesting hemline or detail that gives me some flair. Or I love to pair bright red, flashy shoes with a more toned-down outfit. I usually call my style, “classy with an edge”. And taking the quiz confirmed it for me!
What a great combination – I love that you have found your style personality balance. You have a similar style preference to me! You sound like my style twin 🙂
